A New England Village

The story of America is often the story of its small rural towns. Eva Deutsch Costabel, newly come from Europe, saw this when she visited an early American museum village, and it was the key to her understanding of her adopted country. In this book, the author-artist takes the reader back to the New England of the early nineteenth century and describes the homes, the farms, the schooling, the shops and the crafts of a typical village, to give the reader a feeling for what life was like. Her full page drawings on every spread reflect her interpretation of early American design as she saw it on that first visit.
